Project description (English)

Kenauk is an ideal location for a research institute because of its unique watershed and wildlife corridor. With over 60 lakes and a myriad of flora and fauna species, the Kenauk property offers endless possibilities for research. Kenauk is a unique area that is being permanently protected by the Kenauk Institute and the Nature Conservancy of Canada. There are many opportunities for ecological research on the property. The mission of the Kenauk Institute is to support, coordinate and oversee research, involve local schools in environmental education, and connect Kenauk with the community. The vision is to establish a baseline biodiversity inventory and monitor the land with a 100-year horizon. In the long term, Kenauk will become a laboratory for monitoring climate change and human impacts. Conservation planning for Kenauk will include a larger-scale goal of protecting the Kinonge watershed and the wildlife corridor that provides ecological connectivity between Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle and Parc national du Mont-Tremblant. Indeed, "the continuous forest cover north of Kenauk provides favourable conditions for migration. The objective is to maintain landscape connectivity for the free dispersal of these different target groups."

Project description (French)
