Project description (English)
As part of the culvert rehabilitation project within its jurisdiction, the City of Sutton completed the construction of two wildlife crossings in 2024, including a dry crossing. These projects represent an innovative municipal initiative to promote ecological connectivity. The City of Sutton and Corridor Appalachen have established a partnership to document the functionality of these structures for wildlife. A wildlife monitoring program therefore began in May 2025 and will continue for a period of one to five years, depending on the data collected. This monitoring focuses on four culverts: the two culverts modified in 2024 and two control culverts located in the same areas. Long-term monitoring is recommended, as an adaptation period of one to five years is necessary before wildlife successfully uses a new wildlife crossing.

À l’occasion de la réfection de ponceaux sur son territoire, la ville de Sutton a réalisé en 2024 l’aménagement de deux passages fauniques, incluant une traverse sèche. Ces aménagements représentent une initiative novatrice du milieu municipal pour favoriser la connectivité écologique. La ville de Sutton et Corridor appalachien ont établi un partenariat afin de documenter la fonctionnalité de ces aménagements pour la faune. Un suivi faunique a donc débuté en mai 2025 et sera maintenu sur une période allant d’un à cinq ans, selon les données recueillies. Ce suivi cible quatre ponceaux, soit les deux ponceaux modifiés en 2024 ainsi que deux ponceaux témoins localisés dans les mêmes secteurs. Un suivi à long terme est recommandé, car un temps d’adaptation allant d’un à cinq ans est nécessaire avant que la faune utilise avec succès un nouveau passage faunique.
